holy fuck I got FreeMcBoot and OPL working with a Memcard Pro 2 and an SSD on my Playstation 2 that was a massive pain in the ass what a cursed process. like hats off to the amount of work that went into getting all of this working but you basically have to cobble together multiple separate projects and figure out "oh I have to look at this other document next". I could get ROMs running on my Nintendo DS, 2DS and Wii combined faster than it took me to do this.
Holy fucking shit, short-pressing the left button on the Memcard Pro 2 FORMATS THE VIRTUAL MEMORY CARD? The button that I have to long press to get to the menu, if I short press it, it formats the virtual memory card. The virtual memory card that has FreeMcBoot and OPL loaded on it. Holy shit amazing design.
with the help of two more programs I was able to download and organize box art (OPL Manager) and transfer them to the SSD (PFS BatchKit Manager) so that the listing in OPL would have art rather than something generic. but now I am finally done. I have a known workflow for transferring and setting up games on the SSD. it would be fitting to set up a Make file to do all of this, this is how archaic and incomprehensibly complicated this all is.
anyway Odin Sphere is fucking gorgeous. I hate photographing CRTs so this isn't perfectly representative, the detail is easier to see in-person and the light blue highlights don't bloom into a mess of pixels like above, but whatever.
